The
French Riviera

The French Riviera is probably the most famous
stretch of coastline in the mediterranean. Courted by the rich
and famous, this extravagant strip is a bewitching and magical
area to visit on a yacht. The distances between ports are close
so you can sail or motor for two or three hours each day and still
have plenty of time to explore. There are over 25 old and new harbors
on this section of the coastline that include Cannes, Menton, Antibes,
Villefranche.
ITINERARY
Day 1 and 2:
Iles d'Hyeres is a good starting point as you can cruise your way steadily
eastward to Monaco or the Italian Riviera. Perhaps start with a few days
relaxing, swimming in these beautiful islands of Porqueroles and Port Cros.
Day 3:
After relaxing at Iles d'Hyeres, you may be ready for the hustle and bustle
of Saint Tropez. Anywhere else in the world, a yacht allows you to escape
the crowds, but in Saint Tropez you tend to join the crowd.
Day 4:
Sailing on past the Frejus and Saint Raphael is Cannes. Famous for its film
festival, sandy beaches and nightlife. To escape the crowds a short distance
from Cannes is the twin Isles de Lerins named Saint Honorat and Saint Margarite.
Both islands have beautiful bays for swimming and water sports.
Day 5:
Antibes may be the next port of call. This impressive international yacht harbor
is nestled next to the medieval fortress town. There is a daily market, the
Picasso Museum and literally hundreds of delightful bars and restaurants.
Day 6:
Nice is a big city with a marina inside the commercial harbor. Nice has everything:
shops, clubs, wonderful shopping and grand hotels and restaurants. Moving
on, near Cap Ferrat Iles, the well protected anchorage of Villefranche bay.
Villefranche itself is a quaint small town with a large Napoleonic fortress.
There are some magnificent fish restaurants on the quayside.
Day 7:
Monaco is the historical playground of kings, tsara, film stars and shipping
magnates. The old harbor of Monte Carlo has magical charms that time will
never dull.
Note:
Depending on the yacht's schedule, the pick up and drop off point along the
french coast can be arranged to suit your requirements. |
