Balearics

Balearic Islands

The Balearic Islands lie off the Eastern Coast of Spain in the western Mediterranean Sea.   The Balearic Islands are made up of Palma De Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera.  What the Balearic Island chain lacks in size, it more than makes up for in style.

The Balearics are just as interesting as the bigger island chains, say, Greece, Dodecanese or Cyclades chains, which is part of the reason they make such an excellent Mediterranean yacht charter destination today.

Mallorca is home to Palma de Mallorca, a simultaneously historic and modern city that is home to both a Gothic Cathedral and an international airport.  Mallorca also hosts the main harbor in the Balearics, which means it is likely where your week long yacht charter itinerary will begin and end.   Mallorca is full of fascinating historic sites, beautiful old charming villages all interlaced with traditional cuisine and friendly locals.

Menorca is the next largest of the Balearic Islands and is known for it’s natural beauty.  Menorca is also known for her prehistoric human inhabitant stone monuments.  Chartering in the Balearics offers you the choice of either cruising by the White Sandy Beaches to more private locations or joining in the resort style life.  This is what makes chartering in a destination like the Balearics so exceptional.

Ibiza is known as the “party” island and offers you the choice of either visiting the beaches or lounging onboard your yacht anchored off the coast all day, then dancing the night away in well known discotheques like Cafe del Mar, which is so popular among the dancing youth of today.  While Ibiza night life is legendary, you will aso find deserted beaches, beautiful cliffs, quiet anchorages and just about anything else you could want on a yachting holiday.

Formentera is the smallest of the Balearic Islands and located just off the south coast of Ibiza.  Formentera is relatively underdeveloped with good powder white sand beaches and crystal clear blue waters.  Formentera is known more for hiking and walking.  For the cruising charters the Formentera island offers perfect anchorages and quiet picturesque sceneries.
