RMS Rhone

The British Virgin Islands are a scuba diver’s paradise.  Wreck dives litter the ocean floors from the RMS Rhone which was owned by the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company and which sunk off Salt Island on 29th October 1867 to the 300 wrecks that lie off the banks of Anegada.

Discover all that the British Virgin Islands has to offer above and below the crystal clear Caribbean waters.

BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS ITINERARY

There are many different ways to explore the British Virgin Islands on your yacht. The following is just an example of the places you might visit on the way. Before each charter, your crew will give you a briefing of what is available so that you have the opportunity to discuss where you would like to go, and then the crew will customize your vacation to suit your requirements.

Day 1: Having been met by the crew and escorted to your yacht you will depart the dock and after a short run across the Sir Francis Drake Channel arrive at The Bight, Norman Island, rumored to be the site of Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous novel, “Treasure Island”. There’s time for a swim or snorkel at the Indians before watching a spectacular Caribbean sunset while enjoying a sundowner or two. Visit either the Billy Bones restaurant ashore, or the floating bar/restaurant the William Thornton each serving great food and offering the utmost in casual dining.

Day 2: After breakfast, take your dinghy over (or the yacht) to The Caves. Pick up a National Park buoy and enjoy the wonders of the coral reef and its colorful inhabitants (don’t forget to look for treasure!). Sail to Cooper Island and arrive early enough to pick up an overnight mooring buoy. Time for more snorkeling off Cistern Point, or while away the afternoon lounging on the beach. Visit the Beach Bar and sample their liquid refreshment!

The Baths

Day 3:  A gentle motor up to The Baths (get there early) and pick up a buoy plan to spend the morning here and have lunch. Dinghy ashore and explore the magnificent boulders and rock pools created by Mother Nature millions of years ago. This has got to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth. After lunch, sail to Marina Cay or Trellis Bay to spend the night there are many places to go ashore or plan to BBQ on board your yacht. The Last Resort and Loose Mongoose are strongly recommended and have been thoroughly checked out by us!!

Day 4: Off to North Sound, Virgin Gorda (great snorkeling at the Dogs or Mountain Point en route) the hard part being which anchorage to choose for your overnight stay. For quiet and tranquility choose Drake’s Anchorage go ashore in the evening and walk over the hill to watch the sunset from Honeymoon Beach. If you want entertainment, Bitter End Yacht Club offers music most nights. Visit the shops, rent a Hobie Cat, learn to windsurf, look at the sharks in their tank. Leverick Bay is a Pusser’s Resort and has a great store. Biras Creek is for those seeking elegance and first-class service the resort has one of the best restaurants and wine cellars in the BVI (there is a dress code after 7pm).

Day 5: Spend the morning exploring by dinghy with your crew, there are many beautiful, deserted beaches and Eustatia Reef is a wonderful snorkeling site, or set sail for the drowned island of Anagada.  Dinner ashore here is a must to sample the fresh grilled Lobster.  Good evening to give the crew a break.  Be sure to walk down the deserted beach on Anagada where you will find only your footprint impressions in the powder soft sand!

Day 6: Sail over to Sandy Cay the perfect desert island! Snorkel, swim and beachcombe then enjoy lunch before you sail to Cane Garden Bay for your overnight stop. Enjoy a great frozen pina colada at Quito’s and then dance to Quito and The Edge ’till the early hours! Quito’s is a ‘must’ if great music is your desire.

Day 7: Start thinking about home again (but not too much!). After playing on the beach at Cane Garden Bay, set course for Soper’s Hole, West End or enjoy a longer run to Little Harbor, Peter Island. As you watch the sunset, promise yourself you will be back to visit the many other wonderful places in the BVI that you didn’t get to see this time.

Day 8: Time for one more swim then back to the Marina, soon you’ll be on your way home, already planning your return!
